Understanding SEO and how it works, in general, is a huge factor in digital marketing and content creation. The subcategory of that would be the on-page SEO. Whenever you want to see quick and efficient results, on-page SEO is your best friend. So, here is all you need to know about the on-page SEO and its most important elements.

Title Tags

The first and most important element is a title tag. It appears right below the URL in the search engine and right above the meta description. Being the first thing people see when they search for any type of online content, a title tag needs to be eye-catching. Though it may seem like the easiest task, crafting an SEO-friendly title tag is not that easy.

You should be able to come up with a very effective title tag that grabs attention while paying attention to certain rules. For instance, the title tag shouldn’t be longer than 60 characters and you should aim to be somewhere between 51 and 55 characters. Your title tag needs to be on brand and eye-catching. It should contain your focus keyword and you should aim to use the language of your target audience.

Headings

Just like the main title, your headings also need to be creative, compelling and eye-catching. It’s not just about what you say in your headings. How you say it can be of great importance as well. It’s also a great bonus if you can work your keyword into your headings as well. The readers should be able to tell what they’re expecting from each and every heading. These headings are like guidelines in a way. They introduce the following section of the article. So make sure your headings do a good job of reflecting on what will be discussed next.

Rich Content

After the title tag and headings, the content itself deserves to get some attention. The content you produce online can either make or break the business’s overall success and sales. First and foremost, the content needs to be semantically rich. It needs to contain all the right information and keywords that will get your page a high ranking on Google search engines.

The way you organise your written content also matters. If the article happens to be long, you need to find an efficient way to section it. Long paragraphs without any breaks tend to bore people and make them want to leave the webpage.  Lastly, make sure your content is SEO friendly by checking in on one of the SEO plug-in programs such as Yoast.

Internal Links

One of the most useful SEO methods includes internal links. They are easy to use and they encourage the on-site flow. There are two rules you should stick to when using internal links:

  • Optimise anchor text by using your target keywords or similar semantic terms
  • Think about your link placement (you will see more benefits from internal links if you use them on your landing page)

‘People Also Ask’ and FAQs

You should also aim to make content that answers commonly asked questions online. People are more likely to stumble across your content if it directly answers the questions they ask online. If you’re just starting your business online, it’s best to focus on your location. That way, you can start reaching the immediate audience around you and then move on to the global audience later on. In creating content that answers questions from people in your vicinity, you should aim to use some of the most efficient local SEO strategies that will help your reach your target audience based on your location. Whether you aim to reach the audience from your city or country, local SEO will help your business get the visibility it needs.

Descriptive Image Alt Text

Lastly, image optimizations, depending on the kind of content you make, can be very beneficial for your overall Google search ranking. If the content you make has a very visual nature (e.g. interior design), then optimising your content is actually necessary and crucial to your SEO. Find a way to utilise this visual aspect and work it into your written content.

Conclusion

Overall, if you know how to write SEO-friendly content, title tags, and headings, utilise the power of visual aspects, answer some of the most commonly asked questions, and learn how to use internal linking, you will know how to handle on-page SEO.
